Jane's attic, update II: started working on the wallpaper.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share that the walls of the attic have been covered with wallpaper. AND I've been playing a little more with Jane!

Of course the walls still need to be fixed in place, and trimmings and weathering need to be added, but this is an important milestone in the whole construction process!

Note that the wallpaper in the room with the staircase next to the attic is only the first layer. The idea is to put another layer on top of it, which will then be partially peeled off to show the underlying one...

Jane's attic update: playing around a bit with Jane.

I've been making quite good progress on the "Attic" project for Jane over the last couple of days. And even though there is a long, long way to go before it's finished, I'm quite happy with the results so far.

To encourage myself a bit, I took a couple of pics of Jane in there. Again, still lots to do, but Jane is already starting to feel at home in her attic..

Breaking New Ground

few days ago, I decided to start working on something completely new: my very first home-made dolls house! It's definitely 'uncharted territory' for me, and although I will be only constructing the upper part, or attic, it is quite a challenge! This is where the lessons learned while building the circus wagon will become very valuable indeed!

Everything is being designed and built from scratch, except for the door and the window that you see on the pictures, which were ready made (but which, of course, I'll 'weather' to pieces!).

The attic will have s slanted roof and even dormers! The walls and roof will be removable for photography purposes. Once finished, it will become Jane's attic, and believe me, it will look great! It's a lot of work, but I'm quite confident it will turn out just the way I envisioned it! I never settle for less, you know..! Will keep you posted!

Scent

I love the scent of old cardboard boxes...

This image: Hornby Trains vintage box for platform crane, made in England by Meccano Ltd.
To toy train collectors, the packaging boxes which carry the toy trains are almost as valuable as their content. Therefore, an item sold with its original box is much more sought after than one without it.

To me it doesn't really matter, although I have to admit that some boxes look very appealing, and when old and weathered, they smell very nice too! I photographed this one to make it look like the bow of a ship. The rusty staples could well be the holes for the anchor.... with a bit of imagination, that is.

Spot

A spotlight in the living room, seen through different eyes, becomes like the lantern of an old coach....

Kitten

This cute kitten looks very fresh for his age, considering he's even older than I am! He has real fur and is very fluffy! He's about 5 cm, or 2 inches tall. The stool he's sitting on is probably from the same period as the kitten. You can see them here on my living room table.
