Amazing Dolls: The Girl in Blue

What do I see in your eyes, little girl in blue? Is it humility, or innocence? Or, perhaps, a combination of the two? Your silence is golden, and so are you!

Lest we forget: The Steam engine, a symbol of progress

As the arrival of winter to the Northern hemisphere sends temperatures down to sub zero levels, many a home is heated thanks to the power of coal and wood. Just like countless generations before them, people in the cold, northern regions know that coal and wood make the difference between survival or succumbing to the merciless climate.

These two commodities also powered the steam engines which heralded a new  age of technological progress and prosperity for all of humanity. It is thanks to these wonderful machines, and the men who built, operated and maintained them, that the world could rise from the darkness and into the light of modernity.

Lest we forget.

Spider webs

The spider web is seen as an icon of the spiritual world. To me, it guards us against the evils of this world.

I watch this mystic veil that separates Man from God as it sways in the wind like a ship's sail; at times invisible, ethereal, then unmasked by the rays of the sun or the pale reflections of the moon.

The wind passes through it but Evil stays behind, lost in the sticky maze together with the odd, unfortunate fly. I take a deep breath and try to do the same, but in reverse: I let the Darkness pass through and drift away, while letting Love stick to me like a fly.

Dolls Houses: A Passage in The Centennial

A dim lit passage in the entrails of The Centennial leads from the entrance to the kitchen at the back of the house, past a dormitory and the bathroom.

Dolls houses: A corner in a room of The Centennial

A corner in a room of The Centennial, arguably my favorite dolls house. She's been with me for three years now, and I enjoy looking at her every day!

The peace and tranquility that reigns in that antique dolls house gives me comfort and calms me down. Long may she keep me company, for I cannot imagine a life without her!

Night Flight (2)

A Polikarpov R-Z reconnaissance bomber aircraft makes a night stop at Leningrad (Saint Petersburg). It's winter and the airplane sports an overall white livery for camouflage. Makes me wonder how the crew stayed alive in that open cockpit...

Rose Prayer of St. Therese, patron saint of missions and of florists

St. Therese, the Little Flower, please pick me a rose from the heavenly garden and send it to me with a message of love; ask God to grant me the favor I thee implore and tell Him I will love Him each day more and more.

Amen.

Big Bow

In front of The Centennial stands a girl with a very big bow on top of her pretty head. Next to her sits her trusty Golden Retriever, a sweetheart that never leaves her side. She looks at the distance with firm and confident gaze. A subtle smile adorns her lips. Who is she, and what is she doing here? Is she somehow related to the Three Girls of The Centennial? So many questions tremble nervous in the air, but silence is the only answer they get.

As the night turns to day, and the cold light of morning invades the land, the girl and her dog vanish into the spirit world again. Outside the birds sing their happy song; inside all that remains is a memory, and the yet unanswered questions.

A Strange Encounter

The world of insects never ceases to fascinate me. They're all around us, billions of them, and yet they go largely unnoticed. Therefore it pays to slow down our hasty pace, and observe them as they go about their business. Their shapes, their colors, they're living examples of God's (some would say, Nature) endless creativity.

War Horse

Hi all, I hope you're doing well!

The First World War saw the introduction of a new, deadly weapon: the tank. First used in combat by the British in September 1916, the tank revolutionized modern warfare, and has been the spearhead of every land army ever since.

I've always been fascinated by the otherworldly appearance of those 'archaic' war machines of the Great War. So after seeing a video featuring a stunning replica of one of these monsters (a British Mk IV), I decided to pay it a humble tribute by using a still from the video as the basis to create something that would resemble a WWI photograph. I do hope I succeed in my endeavor.

The replica was constructed for Steven Spielberg's 2011 film "War Horse." It was based on original Mk IV's present at the Tank Museum in Bovington Camp, England. After shooting the film, the special effects studio that made the tank sold it the museum, which added it to their collection. The cool thing about it is that it's not just a static display, but can actually 'move around' through the mud like a real one.

I hope you liked my "WWI era photo" and please visit the Tank Museum's beautiful website and support them for the great work they do. I've put a link down below. Have a great week ahead!

An armored truck stands guard at a steam engine plant in what it seems to be a conflict situation. Ominous and silent, it sits immobile behind a wall like a predatory beast. The men inside the vehicle hoping that they will not have to show their teeth.

The Ghostly Hour.

At night, the air is thick with echos of lives gone by;

as you can feel their presence in their absence.

A soft breeze, the stir of  a leaf, the chill of a moonlit night,

clouds floating by, translucent and ethereal, dissolving into nothingness

like the fog of the night, when touched by the warm rays of the sun.

The creative process

Also known as the endless trial and error, until one manages to make the invisible visible, the inaudible audible, and the impalpable, palpable. Only to start all over again. And again, and again, and again.

A wonderfully rusty Lionel 0 gauge tanker sits in the golden glow of the afternoon sun. The rust seems to come alive when engulfed by the light of the celestial body, giving the tanker a very warm, yet peaceful appearance.

Mummy, I'm Here, I Can See You..!

Hi everyone, I hope you're doing well!

As stated in my previous blog, I'm currently experimenting a bit with audiovisuals to explore the possibilities of my artwork.

This short clip is the second in a series centering around the 'ghosts & apparitions' theme that I love so much.

I hope you liked this blog. If so, leave a comment, and see you next time. Thank you!!

Elise.

Elise has her morning tea in her favorite room, while she enjoys the sight of one of her cute dolls houses.

The sleepy winter sun invades the room and colors it with a golden hue. It's warm and cozy inside, and Elise wonders what nice things the new day will bring. She daydreams as she lets time slowly drift away... This girl has time on her hands, and not a care in the world.

There is a Bed.

There is a bed where I can end my days
To think about the road I've run the miles I've come
There is a bed where troubles melt away
My lonely hours or hours with you
The times that we've come through
There is a bed where we shared times of love
And out of love those nights are memories best forgot
We argued about trivial things
And slept apart a wall we built among the sheets

There is a bed where sickness left its touch
And fever damp the sheets where I would shake all night
Cold burning on my brow
Hallucinations here and now
A fight to live or die
There is a bed where first we both made love
And left the marks, reminders of how good it felt
The hard, the soft, the sweat in midnight's hour
We built the fort, we climbed the tower
There is a bed where years will make us wise
Truth and lies defeat, despise and forgiving
The sheets our cradle birth to death
The twists and turns of love, the life we're living

There is bed where nights I lay awake
To think about my future to forget my past
My bed a boat to sail the seas
To land where safety finds me gripping to the mast
And though I feel the years slip through my fingers
Sorrow lingers and won't go away
There is a bed that is my sanctuary
A bed where I can end my days
There is a bed.

Sailing

Hi all, how are you doing! It has been a while since I posted anything here, so I decided to change that. It's not a 'new year resolution' or anything; my publishing routine depends pretty much on how I feel.

Anyway, lately I've bought several old sailing boat miniatures of various sizes. And when I say 'miniatures' I don't mean in the usual dolls house scales 1:12 or 1:24, but rather between 50 to 75 cm (19 to 30 inches) in length.Yet, compared to a life size boat these are of course quite small!

Today the pale afternoon sun was casting its rays on them, which led to very beautiful light and shadow effects. I took my camera and shot a few pics, one of which you see here.
I'm not really a 'boat guy', but seeing these gems in the sunlight definitely made me dream away. Dream of sails, wind and the eternal sea...

I hope you liked this blog. If so, leave a comment, and see you next time. Thank you!!
